The "Eschborn Shock Ventilation Humidity Calculator" is an Android app with only one feature: a model-based calculation to determine whether shock ventilation will increase or decrease the amount of water in the air, and by how much the water content (in grams) changes.
Benefits
When a resident of an apartment or house is confronted with excessively high humidity indoors, they must decide how to respond. A cost-effective and simple way to reduce the humidity is by performing shock ventilation. However, this is only possible if the temperature and humidity inside the room are in a reasonable relationship with the temperature and humidity outdoors. This app helps the user to estimate whether shock ventilation is a suitable method to remove moisture and calculates how much moisture can be released.
Conversely, in the case of excessively dry air, the app can help estimate how much water would be lost through shock ventilation and therefore would need to be replaced by evaporation.
This app operates under model assumptions. It does not replace professional advice and is not intended for construction-related or health-related decisions.
Suitability
This app is suitable for you only if all of the following conditions are met:
- you are a private user,
- you have difficulty keeping the humidity below the recommended 60% in at least one room at home,
- you own a hygrometer (humidity meter) and a thermometer,
- you are comfortable working with quantities,
- and you want to use the app to determine whether shock ventilation will increase or decrease the amount of water in the air, and by how much the water content (in grams) changes.

How It Works
The app works as follows:
- Decide which "living space" you want to consider: a specific room, the entire apartment, or the whole house. Specify the corresponding floor area and ceiling height.
- Measure the indoor temperature and relative humidity with your hygrometer and thermometer. If values differ at various locations, calculate the average.
- Manually enter the following values for the selected "living space" in the app: area, height, temperature, and relative humidity.
- Measure the outdoor temperature and relative humidity with your hygrometer and thermometer.
- Manually enter the outdoor temperature and relative humidity in the app.
- After completing these steps, the app will calculate whether shock ventilation will increase or decrease the amount of water in the air, and by how much the water content (in grams) changes.
